Filipe Manu in L’Elisir d’Amore at Glyndebourne

Most recently seen and heard at the Royal Opera House, New Zealand-Tongan tenor Filipe Manu brings his rich, expressive tenor to the key role of Nemorino in this light and lyrical work by Donizetti, characterised as ‘opera with a spring in its step … tumbling from melody to melody’.
L’Elisir d’Amore is a light-hearted look at small-town life and the magic that happens when you start believing in yourself.
A sun-kissed score sparkles with mischief and glows with affectionate humour. Annabel Arden’s 1940s-style production catches the colour, bustle and gossip of Donizetti’s effervescent score while hinting at a darkness lurking just beyond the horizon – a political storm cloud threatening to break over this happy community and their endless summer.
