From bookshelf to opera stage: the classic novels transformed into operas
January 24 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Join British/New-Zealand mezzo-soprano Joanna Harries – a 2021/22 Young Artist at the National Opera Studio – and pianist Lu Liu perform opera versions of some of the most famous stories in history.
For the past two hundred years, opera composers have been turning to their bookshelves for inspiration, choosing some of our favourite literary classics. Joanna Harries, mezzo soprano, considers a range of operatic adaptations of stories such as Little Women, Alice in Wonderland, and Robinson Crusoe.
A graduate of Cambridge University, the Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Joanna is a Britten-Pears Young Artist, Handel House Talent artist and an Opera Prelude Young Artist. Her performances as concert soloist include Snape Maltings Concert Hall, the Bach Festival Åšwidnica in Poland and with the BBC Philharmonic at Harrogate Royal Hall.
Lu Liu is a doctoral student in School of Music, Sangmyung University, Korea. She majors in piano performance and has received training from Prof. Myung-sook Park.
This event is hosted by Opera Predule, and tickets can be purchased here.
