Guildhall Opera Double Bill: Miss Fortune & The Telephone
February 28, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - March 7, 2022 @ 7:00 pm

New Zealand baritone Jonathan Eyers continues to make a splash on the London scene as he stars in Guildhall School’s Opera double bill – The Telephone and Miss Fortune – exploring romantic love, fate and fortune.
Commissioned by Bregenz Festival and the Royal Opera House with a 2011 premiere, Miss Fortune (composed by Judith Weir) is a contemporary re-telling of a Sicilian folk story. The opera is a story about Tina and how her life dramatically changes course overnight; it is a story about fate and fortune.
Gian Carlo Menotti’s opera, The Telephone, was written specifically for performance on American television in 1947. It is a romantic comedy in one act, written for just two singers (including Eyres) along with a hand-picked chamber ensemble of instrumentalists.
Eyers is currently in his first year of the Opera Studies programme at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, studying with Robert Dean. He completed his MPerf with Distinction at Guildhall, and his BMus with First Class Honours at the University of Waikato under Dame Malvina Major, where he was a Sir Edmund Hillary Scholar.
He will play Simon, a wealthy young man, in Miss Fortune on 2 and 7 March, and Ben Upthegrove in The Telephone on 28 February and 4 March.
