London Australian Film Festival returns
November 5, 2022 @ 8:00 am - November 13, 2022 @ 5:00 pm
After a three-year hiatus, The London Australian Film Festival is returning to the capital with some of the latest and greatest cinema that Australia has to offer. Join them in early November for a week of screenings and events as they return to the wonderful surrounds of the Regent Street Cinema, and hop across Covent Garden to their new partner venue, The Garden Cinema.
The centrepiece of the 2022 festival is their tribute to a true legend of Australian cinema, Yolngu actor and dancer David Gulpilil, who passed away last year. Presented in association with the Menzies Australia Institute (King’s College London), the festival kicks off its Gulpilil season with an opening gala screening of Molly Reynolds’ remarkable documentary portrait, My Name Is Gulpilil, at Regent Street Cinema on 5 November.
The celebration of Gulpilil’s life and work continues at The Garden Cinema (8-10 November), with an illustrated talk opening a series of retrospective screenings that includes a programme of rare short films, as well as four features (The Last Wave, The Tracker, Goldstone, Charlies’s Country), that highlight Gulpilil’s singular screen presence.
The 2022 London Australian Film Festival concludes with two special events. On 12 November at The Garden Cinema, a special collection of recent Australian shorts from their partners at Australian Short Film Today is followed by a very special 25th Anniversary screening of legendary Australian comedy, The Castle.
On 13 November, the festival’s closing gala continues their tradition of presenting the work of debut feature filmmakers, with a screening of Renèe Webster’s hilarious new comedy, How To Please A Woman, followed by a live Q&A with the film’s star, Sally Phillips (Bridget Jones’s Diary, Smack The Pony) – pictured above – and producer Judi Levine (The Sessions, Falling For Figaro).
