The Australia House Ensemble returns to Australia House this November for Convergence, a chamber music concert bringing together five Australian string musicians based in London for a programme travelling from Bohemia to Buenos Aires and Australia.
Presented in collaboration with the Tait Memorial Trust, the concert features music by Australian composer Elena Kats-Chernin alongside works by Astor Piazzolla, Antonín Dvořák and Australian-born Percy Grainger. The programme brings together tango rhythms, chamber music and Australian musical voices.
The Ensemble was founded following the centenary celebrations of Australia House in 2018, when a group of Australian musicians performed the world premiere of Joe Chindamo's This House. It now provides a platform for Australian musicians who have established professional careers in the UK, including performers working with leading London orchestras.
The programme:
Elena Kats-Chernin — Moody Tango
Astor Piazzolla — Bonsoir
Antonín Dvořák — String Quintet No. 2 in G major, Op. 77
Percy Grainger — Molly on the Shore
Performers:
Naoko Keatley (pictured) — Violin
Katerina Nazarova — Violin
Morgan Goff — Viola
Thomas Rann — Cello
Jason Henery — Double bass
The concert takes place in the Downer Room at Australia House on Thursday 19 November, beginning with an Australian wine reception at 6.30pm, followed by the performance at 7pm.
Tickets are £40, or £35 for Tait Friends, with student concessions available.
