Gillian Lynne’s Book of Particular Cats published for centenary year

The second instalment of Dame Gillian Lynne’s autobiography, Gillian Lynne’s Book of Particular Cats: A Memoir, has been published as part of celebrations marking the centenary of the pioneering choreographer and director.

Following her acclaimed first memoir, A Dancer in Wartime, the new book reflects on the people, memories and creative encounters that shaped Lynne’s remarkable life in dance, theatre and performance.

Drawing inspiration from T. S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats and the feline world of Cats, for which Lynne created the original choreography, the memoir gathers vivid stories from a career spent at the heart of British theatre.

The book has been collated by Lynne’s widower, New Zealand-born actor Peter Land MNZM, who continues to champion her legacy through the Lynne & Land Foundation.

Playful, personal and star-filled, Gillian Lynne’s Book of Particular Cats offers a new insight into one of the most influential theatrical figures of the 20th century.
