Aotearoa New Zealand-born artist Kate Charles presents Caught by the Dawn at the Pond Gallery, Snape Maltings, this summer.
Charles, who lives and works in Suffolk, was born in the North Island of Aotearoa New Zealand and studied costume design in Wellington before completing a Visual Arts degree in Sculpture and Installation Art at Sydney College of the Arts.
Her practice explores belonging, memory, distance and connection to homeland, drawing on land, sea, family and the landscapes that shape personal identity.
Working across sculpture and painting, Charles creates pieces that reflect on what it means to carry home with you: the people, places and moments held close even when viewed from afar.
Presented in the Pond Gallery at Snape Maltings, Caught by the Dawn offers visitors the chance to see new and recent work by an artist whose practice is shaped by Aotearoa New Zealand, Australia and the UK.
