JGM Gallery presents RE: Imagined, a new exhibition by Kate Constantine, aka Konstantina, a proud Gadigal woman of the Eora Nation. Developed through her multi-year research project with the British Museum, the exhibition explores Gadigal materials, knowledge and cultural memory through a new series of paintings.
Konstantina’s works draw from traditional materials such as reeds, bark, shells and possum skin, reinterpreting them through contemporary visual language. Each painting takes its title from the Gadigal language, reflecting the natural environments from which these materials come and the cultural knowledge embedded within them.
Thoughtful, grounded and quietly powerful, RE: Imagined offers a contemporary reassertion of Gadigal culture and the living histories held within First Nations objects.
