Yentl at Marylebone Theatre

  • Marylebone Theatre 35 Park Road London, England, NW1 6XT United Kingdom (map)

An electrifying reinvention of a modern literary classic, Yentl arrives at Marylebone Theatre in London after a sold-out, five-star run at the Sydney Opera House, where it captivated audiences and critics alike.

Created by Kadimah Yiddish Theatre, this striking bilingual production breathes new life into the famous story by Isaac Bashevis Singer. At its heart is a young woman whose hunger for learning leads her to break with Orthodox tradition, disguising herself as a man in order to study sacred texts. What follows is an emotionally charged journey through faith, love and self-discovery, as rigid social structures are tested and identities begin to blur.

Urgent, poetic and visually rich, this contemporary staging places Yiddish language and culture centre stage, weaving together intimacy and spectacle to tell a story that feels as radical now as it did when first written. Yentl is ultimately a celebration of courage — and of the cost of choosing truth over conformity.
