Acclaimed Australian play Kelly makes its UK premiere at OSO Arts Centre

Following a celebrated, Helpmann Award-nominated tour across Australia, Matthew Ryan’s Kelly arrives in London this June for its long-awaited UK premiere.

This gripping psychological thriller reimagines the story of Australia’s most infamous bushranger, Ned Kelly, through an intense and emotionally charged confrontation between two brothers.

Set on Ned Kelly’s final night in Old Melbourne Gaol, the play sees Ned visited by his younger brother Dan — believed to have died months earlier. What unfolds is a fierce and deeply personal reckoning with masculinity, mythmaking, family loyalty and the cost of becoming a legend.

The production earned the Matilda Award for Best Mainstage Production in Australia and has drawn widespread critical acclaim for its raw emotional force and razor-sharp writing.

“A stupefyingly good script… poignant and to the point.” — Sydney Morning Herald
“A stunning, exalting, and truly authentic piece of theatre.” — ArtsHub
“Gripping, complex, and deeply moving.” — Australian Plays Transform

Presented at the intimate OSO Theatre on Barnes Pond, this limited London run offers UK audiences the chance to experience one of Australia’s most acclaimed recent stage productions up close.
