Sydney-born, London-based artist Anita Klein features in this year’s Royal Academy Summer Exhibition with Noisy Cockatoos, an aquatint etching with drypoint on paper.
The work, selected for the exhibition and hung in Room IX, reflects Klein’s gift for finding warmth, humour and character in everyday subjects. Here, her distinctive eye turns to a lively group of cockatoos, bringing a playful Australian note to the Royal Academy’s annual showcase.
Klein is known for intimate, expressive work that celebrates ordinary life, family, domestic moments and the small rituals of daily experience.
Born in Sydney before moving to England as a child, she studied at Chelsea School of Art and the Slade School of Art, and is a fellow and former president of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers.
Her work is held in public collections including the British Museum and Arts Council England, and she has exhibited widely across Britain, Europe, America and Australia.
This year’s Summer Exhibition, themed Interconnectedness, runs at the Royal Academy until 23 August.
