London Australian Film Society returns on 8 May with its fourth annual screening of The Castle (1997) — one of Australia’s most beloved and enduring cult comedies.
Directed by Rob Sitch and starring Michael Caton, the film follows the Kerrigan family as they fight to save their modest Melbourne home from compulsory acquisition. Warm, eccentric and endlessly quotable, The Castle is a distinctly Australian story about family, community and the idea that a home is worth far more than its market value.
Originally created by the team behind The D-Generation and The Late Show, the low-budget film became an instant classic, celebrated for its humour, heart and affectionate portrayal of suburban life.
This popular annual screening — a regular sell-out — will also feature a new Australian short film, a raffle, and a selection of Australian snacks and sweets.
