Lotte Betts-Dean & Brett Dean in concert at Folkestone New Music

  • Green Room @ The Grand The Leas Folkestone, England, CT20 2XL United Kingdom (map)

A special evening of contemporary music comes to Folkestone this December, featuring Australian composer and violist Brett Dean alongside his daughter, acclaimed mezzo-soprano Lotte Betts-Dean.

They will perform a programme of Dean’s music - an intimate opportunity to hear contemporary works interpreted by the composer himself and one of the singers most attuned to his sound.

Brett Dean is one of the world’s leading voices in contemporary classical music. His “heart-wrenchingly beautiful” opera Hamlet has been staged to great acclaim at Glyndebourne, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, and the Sydney Opera House. Before turning to composition full-time, he spent fourteen years as a violist with the Berlin Philharmonic, bringing a deep performer’s understanding to his writing.

Mezzo-soprano Lotte Betts-Dean has been described by The Guardian as possessing an “irrepressible sense of drama and unmissable, urgent musicality.” Known for her imaginative programming and compelling stage presence, she is fast becoming one of the most exciting Australian artists working internationally.

A unique chance to experience two remarkable Australian artists in an atmospheric coastal setting.
