British-Australian writer-performer Tama Matheson returns to Opera Holland Park this August with the UK premiere of Tchaikovsky: Child of Glass, an acclaimed music-drama exploring the life, loves and inner world of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
Written and performed by Matheson, the production brings together theatre, live music and dance to examine the pressures, passions and conflicts that shaped one of classical music’s most celebrated composers.
Australian-British pianist Jayson Gillham performs Tchaikovsky’s music in new solo piano reimaginings, bringing the composer’s emotional intensity into close focus.
The production also features actors Suzy Kohane and Oliver Holland, alongside dance from The Royal Ballet’s Téo Dubreuil, with choreography by former Royal Ballet dancer Stephen Wicks.
Following the team’s previous Opera Holland Park success with Beethoven: I Shall Hear in Heaven, Tchaikovsky: Child of Glass offers audiences a powerful theatrical portrait of a composer caught between public expectation, private longing and the music that became his refuge.
