Australian and Kiwi creatives gather at the Australian High Commission for FANZA networking event

On Tuesday 4 November, more than 70 Australian and New Zealand creatives working in the UK joined FANZA for an evening of conversation, insight and connection at the Australian High Commission in London.

Our panel brought together leading voices from across the creative industries - Garry McQuinn (RGM Productions), Emily Carewe (Theatre 503), Robyn Allardice-Bourne (Branch Austin McCormick) and Professor Mark Engelman - in conversation with FANZA trustees Maryann Wright and Lyndel Harrison.

Together, they explored the practical realities of making work in the UK: developing new ideas, navigating intellectual property, fundraising, building a business, and getting projects to the stage.

The conversations continued long after the panel, with guests meeting and mingling over Victorian wine (courtesy of the Victorian Government) and lip-smacking lamingtons by Daisy Green before heading to a lively after-party nearby.

We are delighted with the feedback so far, with attendees describing the night as a rare opportunity to meet fellow Antipodean creatives in London and spark new collaborations.

Australian playwright Charlotte Churcher said: “It was fantastic! It was so nice meeting fellow Australian/NZ creatives and the panel was really insightful. Although I know there's a big community of Australian creatives in London it's not always so easy to find them, so it's great to have events like these.”

FANZA extends warm thanks to Wicksteed Works, the Victorian Government, and Daisy Green for their generous support.
