LOMU, a new feature documentary about the late All Blacks legend Jonah Lomu, comes to UK and Ireland cinemas this September.
Directed by Gavin FitzGerald and Vea Mafile’o, the film offers an intimate portrait of one of rugby’s most extraordinary figures, tracing Lomu’s Tongan upbringing, meteoric rise to global fame and the personal and health battles he faced at the height of his career.
Jonah Lomu became rugby’s first true global superstar: the youngest ever All Black at 19, player of the tournament at the 1995 Rugby World Cup, and a record-breaking World Cup try scorer whose power, speed and presence changed the sport forever.
But LOMU goes beyond the sporting highlights to explore the man behind the myth. With access to Lomu’s family and archives, the documentary looks at identity, family, Pacific heritage, fame, illness and legacy.
The film receives its London premiere on Thursday 3 September at Cinema in the Power Station, Battersea, presented by London Breeze Film Festival in partnership with Dogwoof, with a Q&A with director Gavin FitzGerald.
It will then launch in cinemas across the UK and Ireland from Monday 7 September.
