London-based Australian cellist and songwriter William Jack releases This Old Cello Box, Vol. 3 this October, continuing his acclaimed series of genre-bending solo cello recordings.
Known for expanding the possibilities of the cello, Jack brings together classical technique, folk, bluegrass, jazz, world music and guitar-influenced playing to create a sound that moves well beyond the instrument’s traditional boundaries.
This Old Cello Box, Vol. 3 follows the first two volumes in the series, released in 2022 and 2024, and marks the latest chapter in Jack’s ongoing exploration of the cello as a rhythmic, melodic and storytelling instrument.
Jack, who is based in London, has toured extensively across the UK, Europe and Australia. His solo compositions from the This Old Cello Box collection have been performed live on BBC Radio 3, and he was selected as a New Folk songwriter at the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas.
The new record arrives in a busy period for Jack, whose recent performances have continued to showcase his distinctive approach to the cello: part classical instrument, part folk voice, part guitar, and part percussive force.
